Picture this: It’s 2024, and we’re a bunch of twenty and thirty-somethings huddled around a dimly lit bar in New York City, each armed with our phones and an alarming number of dating app notifications. As the night wore on and the stories got progressively more outrageous, we had what you might call an epiphany (or maybe it was just the wine talking).
We realized that while everyone was busy trying to find “the one,” we were inadvertently collecting the most entertaining, cringe-worthy, and downright bizarre dating experiences of the digital age. From the guy who showed up to a coffee date in a full medieval costume (unprompted) to the woman who spent an entire dinner explaining her extensive collection of ceramic frogs, we knew we were sitting on comedy gold.
Fun Fact: The idea for this site was actually born when our founder received a 47-message essay from a Hinge match about why pineapple on pizza was a dealbreaker. We knew we had to document this madness.
Let’s be honest – dating apps have turned modern romance into something between a job interview and a reality TV show. Everyone’s trying so hard to be perfect that they’ve forgotten how to be human. Meanwhile, the real stories, the messy ones, the hilariously awkward ones – those are the stories that actually matter.
We’re not here to give you dating advice (lord knows we need it ourselves). We’re here to remind you that you’re not alone in this beautiful, chaotic mess. That weird date you went on last week? We’ve probably heard worse. That bizarre pickup line that made you question humanity? Yeah, we’ve got a whole category for those.
We’re a scrappy crew of writers, editors, and reformed dating app addicts based in the greatest city for bad dates: New York. Armed with nothing but laptops, an unhealthy amount of coffee, and a shared trauma bond forged through countless dating disasters, we’ve made it our mission to collect and share the stories that make us all feel a little less alone in this digital dating wasteland.
Our team includes former journalists, creative writers, and at least one person who once matched with their cousin on Bumble (we don’t talk about it). What unites us is our belief that laughter is the best therapy, especially when it comes to the absurdity of modern romance.
To create a space where the real stories of dating in the digital age can live and breathe. Where you can read about someone’s worse date and think, “Well, at least I’m not alone.” Where we celebrate the weird, the wonderful, and the “what-were-they-thinking” moments that make up the modern dating experience.
Because at the end of the day, we’re all just trying to figure this out together. And if we can’t find love, at least we can find some really good stories to tell.
